The Rainbow Accordion Dress

I’ve been looking for ways to update my wardrobe so I was delighted to come upon this dress! Sold in black or pink, the dress is simple until you get towards the bottom. That’s where you’ll find accordion style pleats in different colors of the rainbow. It’s minimalism and rainbows in one! Called the Ericdress Color Block Patchwork Short Sleeve Round Neck Casual Dress, it’s a steal right now at $26.03. I couldn’t help but buy it in both colors. The review are fairly good, 4 out of 5 stars with 24 reviews. I just hope it comes out as pretty as it looks.

Because I was in a dress buying mood, I also scooped up this pretty wrap dress at Scoutmob. (I love the dainty elegance of cap sleeves.)

Photo a Day Project: Day 13 of 365, Playing Outside

This past weekend, we went camping for one night at the Dripping Springs Campground in Temecula. On Saturday night, we got there around 8pm so it was too late to take my picture of the day! (We were busy putting up the tent and cooking up dinner.) I’ll make it up sometime. This photo was also snapped this past weekend. It’s the boys cruising around the neighborhood in their vehicles. Parker and Logan are getting along great these days, they run around and play tag, they splash each other in the bathtub, and they, generally, look out for each other. I hope that they grow up to be best friends (just like me and my sisters).

I also like this picture of them sauntering down the street. My boys are growing up too fast!

Walk Through an Upside Down Flower Garden in San Francisco

Just how magical does this look? Rebecca Louise Law latest exhibition photos have just hit the web. Called The Beauty of Decay, the installation is located at the Chandran Gallery in San Francisco. How I’d love to walk through this myself!

As one commenter wrote: “Try to experience this in person. The photos are great but standing amidst these strands was extraordinary. I’ll be going back over and over the watch these flowers ‘age in place.'”

Talk about a selfie spot!

Incredibly Adorable Pet Portraits by Rachael Hale McKenna

Rachael Hale Mckenna is the woman behind some of the most adorable pet pictures you’ll ever see. For the past 21 years, she’s been taking unique images of our four legged friends. She doesn’t just take pictures of animals, however, she’s also gifted at photographing babies and families. In her animal photos, I love how she uses props like roller skates, hearts and teddy bears. They elevate her pet photography to a new cute and quirky level.

Beautifully Striking Paintings of People by Dario Moschetta

Using acrylic on canvas, Dario Moschetta, an artist from a small town near Treviso, Italy, creates incredibly striking portraits of people. Though he experiments in various techniques, especially for his Cityscapes series, it’s his gorgeous paintings of faces that caused me to stop and stare. The way he captures emotion in his portraits is striking. I love how some of his subjects seem lost in a dream, with their eyes closed, they’re immersed in their own peaceful world.

Photo a Day Project: Day 10 of 365, Lunch at My Favorite Winery

Sam and I just enjoyed a near perfect lunch at our favorite local winery. Called Ponte Winery, it’s a beautiful spot to visit especially if you’re ever in the Temecula area. Their food is always divine. Today, we had the cheese, breads + jams starter, the caprese salad, and the veggie wrap with sweet potato fries and garlic aioli. At the start of this Photo a Day project, I didn’t know that I’d be photographing so much food but I just can’t help it, especially when the food is delicious and so beautifully presented. (Sorry about that lone olive on the table, it looks like it just popped off the dish!)

Fun Links of the Week

With all of the violence happening in the US right now, it doesn’t feel right to share “fun” links. Then again, maybe it’s what we need the most. Maybe we need our weekly dose of art and design to remind us of that there are things that can unite us, things that can bring a smile to our faces, and things that can lift our heavy hearts.

Let’s start off, however, with this:

In the wake of the police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, Daily Show host Trevor Noah had one point to make on Thursday: It’s possible to be both pro-cop and pro-black. A must watch video.

Would you collect street art?

I love this colorful makeover of a decaying building on a beach.

It’s coming…lots of naked people in the name of art. I’m looking forward to seeing Spencer Tunick’s newest work.

Love Pixar? Seen all of their movies? Then check out this sweet compilation. via TheAwesomer

This pink pavilion reminds me of Hubba Bubba gum.

Long exposures + fireflies = magic.

As a Disney fan, I got a kick out of these paintings.

Tim Burton’s Game of Thrones.

Walking on water? At the Trevi Fountain? Fendi pulled out all the stops in Rome.

Great idea for kids play area or bedroom – giant magnet board.

DIY rainbow tie dye hammock.

I wish I could go to Seattle to see this.

I’m going to try to make it out to Long Beach to check out this art show. (Excited to see a piece by Ernest Zacharevic in person.)

Threadless just started selling four different styles of hats. (I wish beanies looked good on me. If so, I’d get this one.)

Starry Wars: Star Wars + Van Gogh = Awesome.

Photo a Day Project: Day 9 of 365, Portrait of Sam and Logan

Yesterday afternoon, we went to Disneyland with the kids. Sam’s back was hurting so we didn’t make it very far into the park. Over on the California Adventure side, I got to take a few quite snaps of Sammy holding Logan. We thought Logan would cooperate with us and sit in a stroller but he wasn’t having it. Sam had to carry him throughout the park. His poor back is paying for it now.

Beautiful Frida Kahlo Street Art in Buenos Aires

Since artist Frida Kahlo’s birthday was yesterday, July 6, I thought we could celebrate by looking at this magnificent piece of street art by artists Julián Campos Segovia, Jean Paul Jesses and Juan Carlos Campos. It took the threesome three weeks to paint the mural using paintbrushes and latex paint. The iconic Mexican painter holds a cigarette in her hand and is adorned with flowers in her hair. The head of Frida is made from a wooden panel which was attached to a wall.

The breathtaking artwork measures 9 meters high and 7 meters wide. It was completed in Palermo, Buenos Aires.

Cute Ceramic Mugs of Animals and Weather by Beardbangs

How cute are these mugs by Beardbangs? I found these on Miss Moss’ blog post titled Goodies No. 28. Love the clever use of the handles. Though a little pricey, at about $30 each, see it as something you’d use every day, especially if you drink coffee.

The ceramics are made in Montreal, Canada.

“Each piece is thrown on the potter’s wheel with white, stoneware clay that is sourced in North America. The pieces are then decorated with colourful engobes (tinted, liquid clay) and/or deep black underglaze. The pieces are fired to about 1950°f, then coated in transparent glaze, then fired again to about 2200f°. This process makes the pieces dishwasher and microwave safe, and non-toxic as always.

“Each piece is handmade, so your order will look like the one in the photo with its own touch of uniqueness.”
