Starting November 11, Transition Gallery in London will be putting on a collective art show called The Classical. The group exhibition will examine contemporary painting and its relationship with art history. One of their most colorful pieces is from Freya Douglas-Morris, who created this painting called Cave of Dreams. It’a a beautiful explosion of color, isn’t it?

Tattly and Rifle Company recently teamed up to bring us a stunning new temporary tattoo. Rifle Paper Co. is a stationery and gift brand based in Winter Park, Florida founded by husband and wife team, Anna and Nathan Bond. They’ve worked with Tattly before but their tattoos are usually floral based. The sparkle in this peacock one caught my eye. How pretty would it be on the inside of your arm…like this?
Tomorrow’s the big day! It’s the annual Halloween party held at my sister, Carol’s, house. My family is dressing up as rock stars. I’ll be going as Katy Perry, Sam will be Boy George, Parker is going as Michael Jackson and little Logan will be Axl Rose. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the family will be dressed up as.

Every year, my sister, Carol, puts on a big party at her house to celebrate both her husband, Burt’s, birthday and to celebrate Halloween. It’s a huge event, my sister goes all out with the decorations and everyone is expected to come in creative costumes. Carol and Burt always put out a feast, this year’s theme is Dia de Los Muertos so the food is all going to be Mexican.
I volunteered to bring a few appetizers. It was difficult to find food decorated in the Dia de los Muertos theme so I opted for just Halloween inspired. Here are three that I found.

If you love watercolor and you can’t get enough of whales, you’ll want to check out these fine art prints by Rachel Byler. The Pennsylvania-based artists creates lovely paintings of whales playing just under the surface of the water.
Byler states why she loves to work with watercolor on her website, “Although I love all types of art, I am particularly drawn to watercolor because of the versatility that it allows as far as being able to pick up and paint wherever. I love having to work with the flow of the water. The most beautiful washes and blooms come about when you give more control to the movement of the water.”

For the Nuit Blanche Toronto festival, held on October 1, Spanish designers Luzinterruptus brought back one of their most popular installations, Literature vs. Traffic. Previously carried out in Madrid, New York and in Melbourne, this installation consisted of 10,000 books donated by the Salvation Army. 50 volunteers worked for 12 days to create a huge river flowing through the downtown streets of Toronto.
The message? “We want literature to take over the streets and conquer public spaces, freely offering those passersby a traffic-free place which, for some hours, will succumb to the humble power of the written word. Thus, a city area which is typically reserved for speed, pollution and noise, will become, for one night, a place for quietness, calm and coexistance illuminated by the vague, soft light coming out of the lighted pages. The books will be there for those who want to take them so the installation will recycle itself and will last as long as users want it there. Cars will eventually fill their space but for many of those who walked by this place that night, the memory of those books that took that same space will improve their relationship with these surroundings”.
During that night, visitors could literally feel immersed in a flow of words as they dove down and found their treasures, enjoying brief reading moments which eventually would lead them to taking small pieces of the installation home.
