Milan Design Week’s Prettiest Space

First, it’s all pink! Who doesn’t love that? In what’s been dubbed one of “The Most Instagrammed Pieces at Milan Design Week,” Le Refuge is a pretty place where one finds comfort and peace. “
It is the projection of a childhood memory. Its large leaves form a shelter under the sun, away from reality, just like those of the imaginary jungle that grows in the room of a child who seeks escape,” states designer Marc Ange. This was installed at the Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition space. Here are some pictures of people enjoying the space.

Sculptural Tree Blossoms with Mist-Filled Bubbles

At Milan Design Week, which is happening right now through April 9th, there is one installation that I’m sure is catching everyone’s eye. Studio Swine and COS have teamed up to create a tree-like structure that emits pale bubbles, which dissolve into white mist as they burst. A video was recently released that shows us how unique this sculpture is in real life. The bubbles burst when touched with skin but remain in tact when in contact with textured fabrics.

Japanese designer Azusa Murakami and British designer Alexander Groves, a London-based duo wanted their installation to resemble cherry blossom trees.

Called New Spring, the six-meter high structure consists of slender white tubes that extend up and out like the branches of a tree. I love that when the bubbles burst, a pale mist is released. Stunning!

Visitors Bravely Stand Under 300 Sharp Pitchforks Suspended From the Ceiling

In the name of art, are you adventurous enough to explore an abandoned warehouse? Come see the exhibition, the 14th Factory in Los Angeles and get ready for a jarring experience. Hong Kong-based British artist Simon Birch turned a dilapidated industrial complex into a haven of art. With the help of twenty artists from China, Hong Kong, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, Birch has transformed an industrial area into a trippy environment. In one of the rooms, hundreds of pitchforks are suspended from the ceiling, ready to crash onto visitors’ heads. Called The Crusher (The Talisman), it’s a site-specific installation, meaning it was made just for that spot. As KCRW states, “It feels as if angry Gods are ready to punish us for whatever sins we might have committed. It definitely takes courage to stand under these pitchforks.”

Got to love all of the different reactions. Talk about a fun photo environment.

Read more about this exhibition at KCRW or read some of the reviews over on Yelp. Based on all I’ve read, this sounds like one show you don’t want to miss. (It’s only on till the end of April.)

I love coming across art that stops me in my tracks. This is a new piece by artist Kari-Lise Alexander. She’s currently exhibiting at Thinkspace, from now till April 22, 2017. The show is called WAKE. Many of the pieces feature women surrounded by or floating in water. You can find an interview with the artist here and her Instagram page here.

Rainbow Colored Linen Dress by Mara Hoffman

Excuse my slight obsession with this rainbow colored linen dress by Mara Hoffman. I first spotted it on Vogue.com about a week ago and then it just happened to pop up on my radar again. Anthropologie is now selling this gorgeous dress along with several other pieces from the designer. I love how it is asymmetrical, how it only bares one shoulder and how you can pair it with any color accessory or shoe. It’s a beauty.

Fun Links of the Week

Another week has passed by! It’s been crazy, I’ve gone out the past three nights with some friends and it’s been a blast. It really makes me appreciate all of my relationships with my friends and family. This weekend, my sister is coming down to our house. I love catching up with her.

Now on to the fun links of the week.

I’d love to visit the Guggenheim to experience these light, space, and sound installations.

Van Gogh lovers, you’ve got to see this.

Are you into documentaries? If so, check out this list. (Loved Dior and I.)

This ombre wallpaper is my most popular pin on Pinterest. The colors do blend nicely, don’t they?

These pink and red ombre earrings are not just handmade, they’re gorgeous. Selena Gomez recently rocked the orange ones.

Wow, that’s some crazy nail art.

Some day, I’d love to travel the world getting inspired by art and design festivals. Here’s a peak into Milan’s design week.

This modern house is in one word: gorgeous.

Frozen could have had a very different ending.

I aspire to make a company like this.

There’s a new online directory of thousands of art exhibitions at 1000+ museums across the US.

This blue metallic/red pom shoe is back in stock! It’s whimsical yet stylish, isn’t it?

Model Karlie Kloss recently collaborated with Express on a line of clothes. Love the optimist jacket (it’s reversible!) and t-shirt.

Make-up guru Michelle Phan recently relaunched her EM Cosmetics line. I picked up two of her lip glosses. Love the packaging.

I’m making a prediction that marble wallpaper is going to be the next big thing.

Ever since I saw Emma Stone in a yellow dress on LaLa Land, I’ve been yearning for my own. Madewell has something cute.

I love this classic and clean red and white look of these Converse sneakers.

Thanks, Flipboard, for calling out my “Trends I Love” folder on Twitter. (I really do love spotting trends.)

Word.

I love both of these super fan rings.

These Yayoi Kusama-inspired polka dot Easter eggs are just plain rad. (Matisse’s is pretty cool, too.)

This stunning u-shaped skyscraper is like nothing I’ve ever seen.

I bought this book recently after I learned about it through SwissMiss.

Monique Lhuillier makes some show stopping dresses. This pink one is so beautifully draped.

Trend: Color-Popping Statement Dresses

Net-A-Porter just stated that “this season’s runways were saturated with every shade of the rainbow.” I can’t help but love all of the color-popping clothes, especially the statement dresses. Though I don’t usually post on the high-high end brands (note: two highs), I couldn’t help but fall in love with these by Balenciaga, Gucci, Tibi and Roberto Cavalli. Fire engine red and millennial pink seem to be the colors trending right now, which I just can’t get enough of. Note: Did you notice Balenciaga’s cool color-blocking?

Abyss Table Reminds You of the Beauty of the Sea

This is one of those furniture pieces that just makes you gasp. The Abyss Table resembles different layers of the sea.

Here’s the product description: “This autumn, Duffy casts an eye downwards – looking to the depths of the ocean to dream up a dramatic new coffee table, that introduces the majesty of the big blue to the interior… As well as servicing you with somewhere impressive to put your cup of tea. The Abyss Table is a conversation piece as much as a functional one. But while previous works play with gravity, this new design is concerned with depth, and creates a geological cross-section as mesmerizing as the sea.”

Art like this comes at a price. The table retails for $25,000 over on Houzz.

Must See Movie: A Ghost Story

Right when I saw the ghost costume, they had me hooked. Then, I read about what this movie is about and I almost cried. I’ve often thought about what might happen if Sam suddenly died on me so this movie hits close to home. It looks like it was beautifully done. Here’s the synopsis.

“A dead man (Casey Affleck) returns to haunt his wife (Rooney Mara), manifesting as a ghost wearing a sheet with eyeholes over his head. As he watches her deal with her grief, he also encounters a female ghost who is also haunting the same house. They come to observe the rhythms of human existence while family life in the house unfolds over a century.”

The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2017. Currently Rotten Tomatoes has it rated at 92% with 25 reviews.

I liked this review, “It’s just the damnedest thing I’ve seen in some time. Weird, haunting, absurd, devastating and occasionally hilarious.”

It is scheduled to be released on July 7, 2017. Must watch!
