Trend: Floral Wallpaper Murals

Though I’m a person who favors an all-white walled house, I can’t help but love this new trend. Wallpaper with giant floral design are bold, brave and beautiful. In this example, I like how the flowers stand out against a black background. It really makes the flowers pop while setting a moody tone. Brit + Co and Curbed called floral murals one of the hottest wallpaper trends of 2016. You can find this one at Murals Wallpaper.

Stunning New Gold Peacock Tattoo at Tattly

Tattly and Rifle Company recently teamed up to bring us a stunning new temporary tattoo. Rifle Paper Co. is a stationery and gift brand based in Winter Park, Florida founded by husband and wife team, Anna and Nathan Bond. They’ve worked with Tattly before but their tattoos are usually floral based. The sparkle in this peacock one caught my eye. How pretty would it be on the inside of your arm…like this?

New Roald Dahl Inspired Kids’ Clothes

One of my all-time favorite places to shop online for my two boys is at Boden. The British clothing brand, which sells primarily online and by catalogue, has the cutest and most colorful items. Plus the quality is good. Just today, October 3, they started selling limited-edition clothes for both girls and boys that have been inspired by six of Roald Dahl’s whimsical stories: The BFG, Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits, James and the Giant Peach, and Fantastic Mr. Fox.

“Roald Dahl’s stories have always been a big hit with my children, and his wonderful imagination and that wicked sense of humor are close to our hearts as a brand, too,” said Johnnie Boden, the CEO and founder of Boden, in a statement. “So it’s incredibly exciting to be bringing the Roald Dahl magic into our new clothing range. It’s the perfect way to mark Boden’s 25th anniversary and 100 years since Dahl’s birth.”

The collection, which ranges in price from $20 to $126, is now available online at Bodenusa.com and at Nordstrom stores.

New Pretty Scandinavia Inspired Collection at IKEA

I opened up my inbox today and found this sweet treat. Later this month, IKEA presents SÄLLSKAP, a new collection that celebrates Scandinavian arts and crafts. (SÄLLSKAP means “being together” in Swedish.) One of the items that immediately caught my eye was the pink tulip lamp. Clustered together, how pretty do they look hanging down the ceiling like that? Want! (Not 100% sure that the lamps are part of the SÄLLSKAP collection.)

Also notice the well-placed, green splashes of paint on the wall and the pretty geranium apron and pillow. All of the SÄLLSKAP designs were inspired by traditional patterns but were given a modern twist.

This limited edition collection is going to launch in stores on October 16 and will only be available to purchase for six weeks.

10 Adorable Animal Sweaters for Kids

Now that fall is upon us, I’ve been scouring the internet, looking for cute sweaters for Parker and Logan. Though shopping for myself is fun, I have a much more enjoyable time looking for clothes for my kids. Boden and J.Crew are my go-to’s but lately I’ve also been checking out Korean and European sites to find something more unique. Here are ten items that I liked. Disclaimer: Some of these items are sold out. (Of course, this is not a big surprise given how cute these items are.) Also, I’ve included both boys and girls clothing.

The Clothing Brands That are Redefining Luxury

Have you guys heard of Cuyana? The women’s clothing brand recently popped up on my radar while I was reading a Fast Company article. It was started by two women who believed that they could find customers “who would understand that having a full closet with too many different options is not necessarily better than one with fewer, more expensive items that they really love.” Basically, the idea is that less is more.

Who needs piles of cheap clothing when you can buy higher quality products that you love? The company has helped to pioneer a new trend in shopping, which they describe as the “lean closet” movement. They even came up with a motto, “Fewer, Better Things.”

Yesterday, I came across this Fast Company article: The Decline Of Premium American Fashion Brands. What Happened, Ralph And Tommy? It’s a very interesting read about how a lot of luxury brands have lust their luster, basically cannibalizing their own sales by offering cheaper, lower quality versions of their own clothing.

As a result, a new crop of brands have popped up like Everlane, DSTLD, and Cuyana.

I appreciate that these shops’ items aren’t extravagantly priced yet are high quality. Would you or have you shopped at these stores?

Right now, on Cuyana’s website, for $10, you can get a nifty guide to San Francisco. As Harper’s Bazaar states, “San Francisco-based clothing line Cuyana joined creative forces with indie travel magazine Cereal (the minimalist’s bible to places and spaces) to produce a beautiful, brand-new travel guide to the City by the Bay.”

Cuyana’s website states, “These places take a fewer, better approach to design. They all exude an aesthetic that has poetry in their meticulously created spaces, like the clean lines of coffee shop Saint Frank, or the soft colors that fill Song Tea and Ceramics. They are beautiful in their simplicity, and you will find that every element has its own story to tell.” Looking forward to taking a long weekend trip to San Francisco with Sam using this little guy.

Lastly, on a side note, the minimalist in me is loving all of Cuyana’s dresses.

New Trend: Hidden Rainbow Hair

I love keeping up with the current trends but I’m always reluctant about trying them. This one has piqued my interest, it’s called hidden rainbow hair. Your hair looks (almost) perfectly normal on top until you put it up or braid it. Think a 40-year-old could pull this off, though? I personally love it with the cotton candy pink color hair on top and the hidden rainbow colored hair hidden underneath.

London is leading the craze with Not Another Salon, located in the heart of Brick lane, London, being credited as one of its founders. The video of the hair falling is especially mesmerizing.

The Secret to a Color-Coded Bookcase

For years now, I’ve been in love with color-coded bookcases. That’s why I was happy to see this one, created with the help of designer Hannah Crowell of Nashville’s Crowell + Co. Interiors. Their secret? Because the couple who owned the home had such a large space, 20-foot arched ceilings and a massive bookcase with 120 shelves, they filled it by buying books by the foot from New York City’s legendary bookstore Strand and color coordinating them in ombré patterns.

Like most of us would do, the designer started out by buying really nice art books to fill the space but quickly realized it would take thousands of dollars to fill it. Ordering 500 feet of books — 50 feet of white books here, 30 feet of orange books there — seemed more economical, but there was one caveat. “You’re not getting the best books; who knows what you’re going to get?” she says. “It becomes completely about filling the bookshelf. You don’t want to look too closely, or you’ll find weird mystery books, Oprah’s biography and stuff you might buy at an airport in the 1980s.” Seems like a neat way to get some eclectic books on your bookshelf. Like a mini surprise.

It took about 14 hours to get the ombré look that goes through the whole rainbow. That’s a whole lot of time but, in the end, wasn’t it worth it?

New Monster-Themed Clothes at J.Crew

I’ll always be a kid at heart. That’s why when I opened up my latest J.Crew catalog and saw this new set of clothes, I wanted to scoop everything up! They call the furry guy Max the Monster. “He’s so terrifyingly cute, we put him everything…” the brand writes. Now only if they could make the t-shirt, sweaters, leggings and shoes in my size! (Also, I’m loving this cat hoodie.)
