Temporary Tattoos That Smell Like Flowers

I finally did it! I bought this beautiful set of floral tattoos. Tatty, the temporary tattoo company started by swissmiss, recently came out with a series of tattoos that actually smell! Not only are the designs pretty, the fact that they smell makes me want them even more. For those unfamiliar with swissmiss, she’s otherwise known as Tina Roth Eisenberg, who runs the popular design blog swissmiss. (If you’re into design, you may want to bookmark her site.)

Tattly is a temporary tattoo store for kids and adults alike. After seeing so many horrendous examples of tattoos on her daughter, swissmiss decided to stop complaining and take matters into her own hands. Tattly was born! I love how she turned something so ordinary into something unique and beautiful. She’s been an inspiration to me for years now. I bumped into Tina at an LA Creative Mornings, an event she puts on, and went up to her to say hello. I was surprised to find out that she knew the blog I had been working on, My Modern Met. It made my day!

This particular series of tattoos, called the Perennial Set, was created by Vincent Jeannerot who specializes in watercolor. The unique fragrance was created in collaboration with Agilex Fragrances, and includes notes of Dewy Fuchsia Petals, Pink Poppies, Ylang Ylang, and Poplar Wood. The scent complements the colors and textures of Jeannerot’s original watercolor artwork. The Perennial Set includes Blue Hydrangea, Pink Peony, Purple Peony, and Rose La France. Though the pink rose is classic, I love the vibrancy of the pink peony. Bought!

In Search of the Perfect White T-Shirt

When it comes to style, I like perusing the occasional fashion blog or glossy magazine but it’s more like entertainment to me. I’m a basic jeans or black leggings type of girl, I prefer to dress in black and white and I like items that are timeless. I feel as though the book, The Cool Factor, was written for women who are just like me. I’m always on the search for the perfect white t-shirt so when I saw this new article pop up on my radar, by Fast Company, I was intrigued.

You may have heard about the company American Giant before, they caused a ruckus on the internet back in 2012 after Slate called their hoodie “the greatest hoodie ever made.” (I never bought one myself but just saw that they have a lightweight version so I scooped one up for Sam.) Bayard Winthrop, the company’s founder and CEO, made it his mission to create the best hoodie in the world. As Fast Company states, “He scrutinized every single element of a hoodie—the fabric, the design, the hardware, the sewing—and tried to create his own version that he hoped would excel in every way.”

As for the white t-shirt, I like that a company would put their heart and soul into designing something so basic. Could their premium t-shirt be their next big hit?

American Giant has made shirts for several years, but a year ago, it embarked on an effort to create a premium T-shirt. Much like a sweatshirt, a T-shirt seems like a fairly basic item of clothing. But Winthrop says that when you look at the details and nuances, things begin to get complicated. “At first glance, there’s not a whole lot going on or a lot of hardware to think about,” he says. “But doing something that is genuinely unique and special is both a design and manufacturing challenge.”

Finding the right fabric was a huge task. Winthrop and his designers scoured the world to find cloth that felt substantial, but was still light. They settled on a high-end slub material, but they had to spend time ensuring it wasn’t transparent. Then there was the issue of fit. A T-shirt can sometimes have a strange drape or torque if it isn’t sewn correctly. The team developed an extra seam at the back of the shirt, which adds an interesting design, but also ensures that the fabric doesn’t bunch up or fall in an ugly way. This entire process involved creating many different prototypes that were tested on dozens of people. “We wanted the shirt to look good on different body types,” he says.

I just bought the premium crew T and the premium v-neck T, both in white. I like the discreet stitching in the back, it subtly identifies it as an American Giant shirt. At $34.50 they’re not cheap t-shirts but for form and function they may just be worth it. Fingers crossed that they live up to the hype!

In Search of the Perfect Camera Bag

I’ve been on the lookout for the perfect camera bag for awhile now. Something in leather, something timeless. Well, I think I’ve found it! Though it’s a little pricey at $439, I see at as an investment. I’ll probably pick one up once I really feel like I’m a true professional. In any case, the website Tools & Toys has given a thorough review of the product.

As it states: “Due to its average size and the convenience of its messenger-style design, the Brixton is one of ONA’s most popular products. There’s certainly much to love about this amazing bag: it has a classic, timeless look that will never go out of style, and more than enough space to carry everything you’re likely to need on a regular basis, including your laptop.

Could this actually turn out to be the perfect bag? Let’s find out.”

You can read the whole review on their site.

I like how the bag will look even better as it ages, how it doesn’t really look like a camera bag, and how the logo is on the inside. Though it looks a little bit on the heavy side, I think it’s a trade-off for the high quality leather.

(As you can see, I’m sold.)

The Most Comfortable Cardigan in the World

If you’re like me, you’re always cold. You constantly keep your eyes peeled for a nice, warm cardigan. This past weekend, for Mother’s Day, my older sister, Grace, bought me and my other sister, Carol, these super soft black cardigans and I just had to share the news. They have got to be the most comfortable cardigans in the world! Though she bought them at Nordstorms, you can also order this cardigan either on the company’s website or on Amazon. It’s called The Bamboo Chic Lite Calypso Wrap by Barefoot Dreams and it comes in a variety of colors. (We received midnight colored ones, but I’m eyeing the ombre pearl/pewter and pearl ones, too).

The cardigan feels like someone is giving you a warm hug. The fabric feels like it belongs on a blanket. It’s not too thick or heavy. It comes in only two sizes S/M=4-10 and L/XL=12-16. I run a 10-12 but the S/M fits me perfectly (though it’s a little snug in the arms). I plan on wearing this every day. It’s that comfortable!

If you don’t trust me, read the reviews on any of the three websites. As one person wrote: “If I could have it my way, I would own this wrap in every color available on Barefoot Dreams site as well as the Nordstrom exclusive colors (burgundy and emerald for this winter 2015 season). It is soft and cozy, making it perfect for lounging around the house. The waterfall draping and length also makes any outfit look a tad dressed up, therefore making it a staple piece in any wardrobe. You won’t be disappointed!”

Beautiful Bouquet of Tulips for Mother’s Day

Lately, I’ve been in love with tulips. This upcoming Mother’s Day, I think I’ll drop a hint to my kids (aka husband) that I’ve been eyeing these. I’m particularly in love with this mix of pink and white tulips, called Luxe, by the company Bouqs. Have you heard of them? They make the whole process of buying flowers easy. Sure it takes a little bit of planning on your part (no quick grocery run) but the end result is worth it. If you’re more of the DIY type, check out Bouqs for some bouquet making inspiration.

It’s not too late to get these delivered by Mother’s Day. (If you want something a little more ornate, Mom is Cute! is stunning, too.)

Mother’s Day Idea: Put Cherished Photos on Pillows

With Mother’s Day coming up, I’m having a hard time figuring out what to get my mother-in-law. If you’re like me, however, you have tons of pictures of your kids (their grandchildren). Why not take the best ones and put them on some cute pillows? SnapBox has 18×18 fluffy, faux suede pillows for only $31.49 (down from their regular price of $41.99). They even have cute templates where you can overlay some words and designs.

Grandma’s over the moon for her grandchildren, so I’m turning this picture of Parker into a pillow. Will let you know how it turns out!

Teepees as Reading Nooks for Kids

I love the idea of a kid’s indoor teepee. The Land of Nod has some really cutely designed ones, with both simple and busy fabric. Now that Parker and Logan are getting older, I want to create a special space for them, either for reading or to just get away. The pre-made ones are quite pricey, so I’m debating creating my own. Not being a typical DIY mom, however, I’m considering just scooping one up at Land of Nod. Either way, wouldn’t this be a fun addition to a playroom? File this under, “wish I had one of these when I was a kid.”

Beautiful, Minimalist Office Gear at Poketo

The Minimalist Collection at Poketo speaks to my heart! If you’re looking for a stylish way to carry your laptop or tablet, check out these folios and backpack. In soft colors like cream and blush, the gear holds all of your tech essentials in a stylish yet sweet way. I love how the accessories embody clean and minimal design. The minimalist folio in medium (as seen above) is my favorite. While the inside pouch holds the little things – phone, cards, and pen – the large pocket fits your tablet and notebook. It closes using two peg-in-hole fastenings. Beautifully simple.

Pillowfort: Target’s Adorable New Kids’ Decor Line

Can we file this under, “Where was this when I was a kid?” Target just came out with a new kids’ home collection called Pillowfort and it’s beyond adorable! Made up of an astounding 1,200+ pieces, it includes bedroom furniture, bedding, stuffed animals and even wall fixtures. Each piece was designed internally by Target’s own Product Design & Development team.

According to Target, the Pillowfort collection is meant to appeal to the Pinterest generation of parents and kids; expertly curated decor that looks like the perfect blend of DIY, thrift store finds and designer boutique buys. Basically, Target is giving us busy parents a one-stop-shop to create a dream room for our kiddos.

On Target’s website, they’ve put together some complete rooms and then called them fun names like Camp Kiddo, Ocean Oasis and Discovery Den. After looking them over and all the cute items inside (who doesn’t want to sleep inside a teepee), does anyone else wish he or she was 10 again?
